Snow Keeps Walking Through the Square

by Leopold Marsh

Frost, rain, wind and snow, taken as old friends who call without warning.

Tracks

  1. 1. The Snow Keeps Walking Through the SquareThe flakes touch the cobbles and disappear, and so does the whole song. I let the horn follow them down.neoclassical, winter ballad3:55
  2. 2. The Snow Has No Plans to StayIt kisses the pavement and goes. The lightest thing I have recorded, mostly piano and breath.neoclassical, winter ballad3:59
  3. 3. The Frost Keeps Its Own CounselI walked out in my father's boots across a white lawn. The frost keeps its counsel, and so did he.neoclassical, pastoral3:51
  4. 4. The Rains Arrive Like an Old Friend's KnockThe sky goes heavy and the dust settles, and for once the weather is good news. A warm horn, a hopeful verse.neoclassical, pastoral3:57
  5. 5. I Will Not Bow to the WeatherA wind like a debt, rattling every shutter. This is as close to defiance as I get, and the orchestra swells to match it.neoclassical, anthemic4:31

Liner notes

I wrote these five in one cold week with the window open, which is the only way I know to write about weather. The choir from the last record returned, this time humming rather than singing, like wind in a chimney. Nothing here is complicated. A man puts on his father's boots, a storm rattles the shutters, the snow refuses to stay. I would not change a note.
