Cloud Chorus

by Odalys Fern

Five home-recorded night songs built from nothing but stacked voices and a looping pedal.

Tracks

  1. 1. Red-Eye Over the Dark OceanThe first loop I ever kept: a cabin full of sleepers and my own voice humming under the engines. It felt right to open with a lullaby.choral dream pop, bedroom pop4:50
  2. 2. Night Market, Lanterns Going OutI wrote this after wandering a night market as the stalls closed, steam still hanging in the lamplight. The tape hiss is the room I recorded in.lo-fi folk, tape haze3:57
  3. 3. Bus Depot Under the RainA depot full of sleeping buses in the rain. I stacked the harmonies like headlights lined up in a row.psychedelic folk, looped vocals4:11
  4. 4. Night Swimmer, Lane FourI used to swim after hours at a closed pool, one light glowing under the water. The voices here ripple on purpose.dream pop, aquatic ambient5:29
  5. 5. Ship's Radio, Calling SoftA radio room glowing green on a wide dark sea. I wanted the last voice on the record to sound like it was calling from very far away.psychedelic folk, choral drone3:58

Liner notes

I made this in my bedroom in Portland with one microphone, a looping pedal and a lot of rainy afternoons. Every voice you hear is me, layered until the room felt full of a choir I used to stand in as a kid. I wasn't trying to make a record, only to see how big a quiet sound could get.
