Five-Thirty / Sunday Pot

by The Concrete Choir

A double A-side of the people who keep the city fed and moving, from the bus route to the kitchen stove.

Tracks

  1. 1. Number Forty-Two Bus DriverI wrote this for every driver who's up before the city is. The chorus is built to be shouted back from the cheap seats.anthemic hip hop, live-band soul, gospel organ3:16
  2. 2. Sunday Pot on the StoveThis is my grandmother's kitchen in four minutes, the smell on the stairs and the prayers over the stove. We kept it slow and let the organ do the remembering.nostalgic boom-bap, gospel soul, organ breaks3:12

Liner notes

These two came from watching the folks who raise us before the sun is up. One is a bus driver starting her shift, the other is a grandmother with a pot on the stove and a prayer on her lips. We recorded them with the choir stacked around one mic, the way we do it in the basement, because they're really hymns for people who never get a verse.
