The Greenhouse in November

by Juniper Okoye

Four hushed songs for the turn of the year, written by the window while the garden goes to sleep.

Tracks

  1. 1. The Greenhouse in NovemberThe glasshouse was the one warm place left on the allotment, and this song is me standing in it with a flask, grateful. It felt like the right way to open the door.folk, cosy folk5:01
  2. 2. Seed Catalogue WinterEvery winter I circle far too many seeds in pencil by the fire. This is the song of that small, stubborn hope.acoustic folk, pastoral3:48
  3. 3. What the Bees KnowI lifted the lid on the hive on the last warm day and the low hum stayed with me for weeks. I sang it almost under my breath so I wouldn't disturb them.hushed folk, nature folk3:19
  4. 4. The Lamp in the StudyThis is the closer because it's where the day ends for me now: evening coming in through the garden door and settling on the floor. It's the quietest thing I've ever put my name to.lullaby folk, chamber folk4:10

Liner notes

After years of working nights, I finally have evenings, and this record is what I did with them: watched the frost arrive, thumbed through seed catalogues, listened at the hive on the last warm day. I recorded it close and quiet, mostly in one room with the lamp on, because that's how the songs came. I'm still finding my voice on every record, and here it wanted to whisper.
