Their story
Lai Ye worked nights at a Sham Shui Po convenience store and recorded demos on her breaks, singing to the hum of the fridges. Her 2013 self-released EP of missed-minibus songs spread through late-night radio requests, and her 2016 debut album 'Last Minibus' made her a cult name in the city's after-hours scene. 'Unsent' (2019) brought glossier 80s analogue production and her signature saxophone-laced sound, and 'Red Coat Hours' (2022) became her most loved record. Now a veteran of five albums, she still records late at night, and her songs are a fixture of Neon Nights.
Influences: 80s Cantopop and Mandarin city pop, late-night radio dramas, Japanese city pop, smoky jazz-bar saxophone
