The Breezeway Five

A five-piece from Kingston that fuses jazz harmony with bossa lilt and a touch of Caribbean rhythm, fronted by a gravelly young tenor. Playful, breezy, built for open windows.

Played on The Late Tram with Hollis Grant

Their story

The Breezeway Five began as rooftop jam sessions among Kingston music students in 2023. Their debut single 'Salt Air Samba' travelled quickly, and their first album 'Open Shutters' (2024) established a sunny, flute-flecked bossa-jazz sound. They are on the rise and still play every show as if it were a rooftop party.

The band

  • Andre Campbell vocals
  • Simone Baptiste flute, alto saxophone
  • Kofi Lawson nylon guitar
  • Marlon Reid upright bass
  • Tasha Boyd congas, brushes

Influences: Bossa nova rhythm guitar, island dancehall-band horns, rooftop jam sessions, breezy mid-century jazz
