Interview Suit, Tie Pressed Twice

Lyrics

Pressed the tie twice, still ain't straight
Mirror's got a stare that says don't be late
Interview at nine, it's a quarter past seven
Nerves in my stomach like a mini heaven
Mama ironed my shirt, said stand up tall
Said the one who prepares don't ever fall
Bus pass in my pocket, resume in my hand
Heart in my throat but I'm making the stand

Suit pressed, tie pressed, nerves on a leash
Walk through the door like I'm out for the peace
Suit pressed, tie pressed, look them in the eye
Nervous is just ready with a little more sky
Suit pressed, tie pressed, say it clear
Whatever happens next, I showed up here

Ride the elevator with a stranger in grey
He said good luck, and I said okay
Palms are damp but the handshake's firm
Every setback was a lesson I learned
Last time they said no, and I took the loss
Now I came back with a bigger cost
Not money, no, I mean the grit
Second shot, and I'm going to hit

Suit pressed, tie pressed, nerves on a leash
Walk through the door like I'm out for the peace
Suit pressed, tie pressed, look them in the eye
Nervous is just ready with a little more sky
Suit pressed, tie pressed, say it clear
Whatever happens next, I showed up here

If you got a door and you're scared to knock
Take a breath, take the walk, watch the clock
Yes or no, you still stood tall
That's a win, that's the best of all

Walked out smiling with my chest held high
Waiting on a call, but the sun's in the sky
Pass the barbershop, give a nod to the chair
Whole city looks different when you've been there
Got a text at four, said we'd love to talk
Mama on the phone, I said Mama, we walk

Suit pressed, tie pressed, nerves on a leash
Walk through the door like I'm out for the peace
Suit pressed, tie pressed, look them in the eye
Nervous is just ready with a little more sky
Suit pressed, tie pressed, say it clear
Whatever happens next, I showed up here
