Lay Your Burden Down by the River

Lyrics

I have carried it all week long
Up the hill and down again
Every worry in my pockets
Every ache I can't explain
But there's a river past the market
Where the willow bends its head
And the water takes what's heavy
And it leaves me comforted

Lay your burden down by the river
Let the current carry it away
Lay your burden down by the river
You can start a brand new day
Every sorrow's got an ending
Every night's a mile from dawn
Lay your burden down by the river
And keep on walking on

There's a woman by the water
With a basket full of bread
She says, child, you're not alone here
Every one of us has bled
We have all been weary walkers
We have all been worn and low
But the river keeps on singing
And the morning's sure to show

Lay your burden down by the river
Let the current carry it away
Lay your burden down by the river
You can start a brand new day
Every sorrow's got an ending
Every night's a mile from dawn
Lay your burden down by the river
And keep on walking on

Sing it out, sing it out
Let it ring across the stream
There is mercy in the water
There is hope inside the dream

Now my shoulders feel like feathers
And my footsteps feel like song
I can hear the choir behind me
As I wander on along

Lay your burden down by the river
Let the current carry it away
Lay your burden down by the river
You can start a brand new day
Every sorrow's got an ending
Every night's a mile from dawn
Lay your burden down by the river
And keep on walking on

Keep on walking on
Keep on walking on
