Glitter Signal

by NEONBLOOM

Layered harmonies and glossy synths sent out over English-language airwaves: summer, school halls, and the first goodbyes.

Tracks

  1. 1. Strum Strum Sugar RushThree chords and sticky fingers, and the whole group sings it like a first jam session. It's the loosest, happiest opener we've done.feel-good pop, guitar-pop1:59
  2. 2. Snow Globe StarlightA shaken-up snow globe with glitter drifting slowly. We layered the harmonies here until they sounded like falling snow.dream-pop, winter synth-pop3:00
  3. 3. Melting Pavement DiscoThirty-six degrees and a fire hydrant fountain. This is the one we play loudest in the van during summer tours.disco-pop, summer synth-pop3:12
  4. 4. Last Bell, First SkyThe single, written about the bell ringing at the end of school. It's a shout-along, but one with a catch in the throat.anthemic k-pop, nostalgic pop2:23
  5. 5. Wake Behind the FerryStanding at the back of the ferry as the foam spins. We recorded the wind with a real fan and a lot of hair spray.dream-pop, wistful k-pop2:45
  6. 6. Moving Boxes ConstellationCardboard towers, marker labels, and a kitchen box that says moon. It's about leaving a home, told with the gentlest synths we own.wistful synth-pop, dream-pop2:57
  7. 7. Nurse Station StarlightA hallway at two in the morning, written for a friend who works nights. We kept the chorus soft but sure.anthemic ballad, k-pop3:10
  8. 8. Left My Heart in the Karaoke BarGlitter on the cheek and a broken heel. It's a sad song you can still dance to, which is our specialty.sad-banger, karaoke pop2:59
  9. 9. Last Stop StarlightA last bus at half past one, and nobody's ready for the night to end. The slow-motion synth line is our favourite sound on the record.dreamy synth-pop, night-bus pop2:33
  10. 10. Retirement Party ConfettiCake, a candle, and a break room full of people clapping. We wrote it for one of our crew members' dads, and it still makes us cry.celebration pop, nostalgic synth-pop3:07
  11. 11. Tiny Fingers, Big SunriseThe quietest song we've ever made, written at three a.m. for a new baby in the family. Just a night-light and a hush.lullaby pop, bedroom pop2:40

Liner notes

Glitter Signal is the record where we learned to listen to each other. We spent weeks stacking vocals, five voices, then ten, then twenty, until the harmonies shimmered like a broadcast coming in clear. It's also the first time we wrote about the things that end: a school year, a house, a night out. We still wrote every hook around the choreography, but this time the dance has a little lump in its throat.
