Still Standing

by Dusty Calloway

Five songs about promises, last calls and the storms a man outlasts.

Tracks

  1. 1. Still Standing When the Wind Lays DownThe roof came off the barn, the fence is in the creek, and the oak lost a limb, but the trunk is standing. I wrote it the morning after, still in my boots.heartland rock, survivor anthem3:43
  2. 2. Promise Kept at the County LineTwenty years ago I swore to a dying friend I'd carry his guitar home to his mother. This is me keeping that promise out loud.rock ballad, promise song3:51
  3. 3. Play the Last One for the WaitressThe jukebox is humming its last one and the roadhouse is nearly asleep. Play it for the waitress, she's earned it.honky-tonk ballad, slow rock4:38
  4. 4. Side B of a Mixtape SummerI found a tape in the glovebox with her handwriting on the side, Side B, for the long drive. I played it until the tape gave out.nostalgic rock, mixtape song3:59
  5. 5. Wrong Bar, Wrong Night, Right SongI went looking for a friendly face and ended up in the wrong part of town, and the band was great. Sometimes the wrong bar gives you the right song.barroom rock, slow rock3:26

Liner notes

I made this one fast in a rented barn with a storm rolling over the roof, which is why the drums sound like weather. These are songs about keeping your word and still being on your feet when the wind lays down.
