by Teddy Okafor Trio

Slow Sunday afternoons, postcards, markets and saudade: the band at its most settled and wistful.

  8. 8. Happy and I Can't Tell You WhyI woke up grinning for no reason at all and wrote this before the coffee. We kept it light and a bit silly.bossa nova, playful jazz4:04
  9. 9. Banjo Boy Under the Streetlamp, SaturdayA young man with a banjo under a lamp, and the whole street slows down to listen. I added a nylon guitar to answer his tune.bossa nova, street-corner jazz4:33
  10. 10. The Keeper Counts the Passing LightsA lighthouse keeper counting the passing lights, and me counting the days. The slowest, most wistful thing on the record, and the last song we cut.bossa nova, lighthouse ballad, hushed jazz3:29

Liner notes

Saudade Sundays took us four years of Sunday afternoons to write. It's the sound of a missing someone and being fine about it. Lena brought a very old upright to the session and we left its slightly sour notes in. Danny barely used a stick the entire time, and Joaquim played his bass sitting down. We were happiest when the room was small and you could hear the brushes.
