Their story
Teddy Okafor met pianist Lena Marsh at a Lisbon jam session in 2012, and the trio found its shape when bassist Joaquim Reis and drummer Danny Osei joined that winter. Their debut 'Umbrella Weather' (2013) was recorded in a single rainy weekend, and follow-ups 'Slow Tide Home' (2016) and 'Saudade Sundays' (2020) built a devoted audience for their swaying, understated grooves. They remain a working club band, happiest in small rooms where the brushes can be heard.
The band
- Teddy Okafor vocals, nylon guitar
- Lena Marsh piano
- Joaquim Reis upright bass
- Danny Osei drums, brushes
Influences: Rainy-night bossa, Brazilian songbook harmony, easy swing combos, seaside cafe jazz
Latest from Teddy Okafor Trio
- Rain on the window this Friday, so we're back in the studio planning a new EP: "Lamplight on Wet Cobblestones." Five slow ones for the walk home after the last set, with brushes, nylon guitar, and Lena's piano keeping things soft. Thanks to everyone spinning "Bread Before the Sun" this week. Grab an umbrella and take the long way home. - Teddy, Lena, Joaquim & Danny
