Fog Lamp Samba

by Teddy Okafor Trio

Six sunny, swaying numbers for the days when the drizzle lets up and the street starts to dance.

Tracks

  1. 1. Fog Lamp SambaThe morning the fog finally burned off the bay, we wrote this before breakfast. It's the quickest song we've ever finished.bossa nova, sunny samba2:52
  2. 2. Sidewalk Samba in the DrizzleA guitar on a corner, strumming in the rain, and nobody caring about the weather. I tried to play like that busker.bossa nova, street samba2:32
  3. 3. Dancing in the Kitchen at NoonBurnt toast and a wooden spoon, and that's about the whole arrangement. Danny swears he's playing the spoon on the fills.jazz-pop, kitchen swing2:47
  4. 4. Neighbour Through the WallI know my neighbour's kettle better than I know some friends. It's a quiet little love song to thin walls.bossa nova, cosy jazz3:32
  5. 5. Last Day at the Office, TuesdayA retirement song for a man who walked out the door for the last time with a grin. We played it like a small parade.jazz-pop, easy swing2:45
  6. 6. Same Corner, Same Smile, Ten Years OnA song about a laugh behind you at a tram stop, and ten years of the same corner after. It ends the record on a handshake.jazz-pop, warm swing4:03

Liner notes

After the rain record people asked if we ever smiled, so we went into the studio on a bright week and let the tempos lift a little. Danny swapped his heavy brushes for lighter ones and Lena grinned through most of it. It's still us, just with the shutters open.
