Plaza de Fiesta

by Max Solano

Five plaza-festival songs for wedding season: piñatas, streetcars and a honey-slow soul turn.

Tracks

  1. 1. Piñata MorningEvery birthday I played had a piñata, and every piñata had a kid with a stick and a plan. This is the sound of that swing.latin pop, cumbia2:38
  2. 2. Streetcar SerenadeA little ding-a-ling carrying lovers down the avenue. The horns play the bell.latin pop, bolero-pop2:53
  3. 3. Bicycle Taxi BoleroThree wheels, one driver, and a slow bolero for a bumpy road. I sang it softer than I meant to, and it was right.latin pop, bolero2:53
  4. 4. Honey on the WindowsillA jar of honey catching the sun, and my first proper steps toward soul. It was a quiet song in a loud year.soul-pop, acoustic soul2:59
  5. 5. Guitar Case Full of PostcardsThe stickers on my guitar case are a map of every plaza that fed me. I opened it up and out came a song.latin pop, nostalgic pop2:49

Liner notes

After Calle Sol people started booking me for weddings three towns over, so this EP is what I played between the first dance and the cake. The brass trio is still borrowed, but now they bring their own chairs. We recorded it in a plaza kiosk after the stalls closed, and you can hear a church bell on the last chorus. I left it in because it felt like a blessing.
