Second Lap

by Kilo Meridian

Going round the block one more time: arrivals, cinemas, garages and windscreens, looking back at where the road started.

Tracks

  1. 1. Arrivals Door, Slow SmileSliding doors, faces passing and one smile I'm waiting for. A cinematic opener for a film about coming home.cinematic synthwave, romantic synth3:30
  2. 2. Drive Until the Radio FadesHighway empty, headlights low and the radio breaking up. This is the single, and the most Kilo Meridian song I can imagine.night drive, groovy synthwave3:27
  3. 3. Busker's Hat, Silver RainA guitar case on the pavement in the rain and the coins that land on it. I tried to make silver sound like a colour.bright electronica, tender synth3:32
  4. 4. Lost Mitten, Warm HandOne mitten gone somewhere in the snow, and a warm hand to make up for it. The smallest song on the record.tender electronica, dream pop3:21
  5. 5. Small Town Cinema, Last SeatOne screen, one door and one velvet seat. It's the film I'd show if I ever made one, and this is its theme.cinematic synth, dark synthwave4:11
  6. 6. Soundcheck Echoes, Old GarageThe garage door rolls up on dusty drums and a cold coffee. I recorded the snare in the same garage.nostalgic synthwave, retro rock-synth3:18
  7. 7. Frost on the Windscreen, Warm HandsScraping frost off a windscreen with a bank card. It's a playful song about the minute before a good day.playful electronica, bedroom pop3:39
  8. 8. Wrong Night, Right SongMissed the last train and lost my coat, but the song was right. The funkiest thing I own.groovy electronica, retro funk3:08
  9. 9. Gym Floor, Streamers DownThe gym is quiet now with streamers on the floor. It's the twin of the song from the first LP, ten years older.nostalgic synthwave, melancholy synth3:17
  10. 10. Right Call, Quiet HeartWe both knew it was time, no shouting and no fight. It's the calmest breakup song I could write.confident synthwave, melancholy pop3:27
  11. 11. Fireworks Over the Rooftops, Quiet NowFireworks are over and the smoke drifts across the roofs. I wanted the record to finish quietly, with ringing ears.hushed electronica, ambient pop3:28

Liner notes

There's a thing I do at night where I drive away, turn round and come back past the same house. That's the whole record. I filled it with places that closed or changed: a cinema, a garage, a gym floor. I used the drum machine from the very first EP, and it still sounds like it's about to say something.
