Lyrics
We argued about the garden hose And who had left the tap on low The words got big, the voices rose And the evening wouldn't go I stood out on the porch steps You stayed in by the stove Neither one of us would speak But the kettle spoke for us both Sorry is a cup of tea Sweet and strong and warm Set it down beside you Till the quiet takes its form Sorry is a cup of tea Two spoons, no need to say We'll talk about it later But I'm glad you're here today You carried out two mugs of steam And sat beside me on the stair Didn't say a word to me Just handed me my share We watched the cat go by the fence We watched the swallows fly And the quarrel went to pieces In the soft evening sky Sorry is a cup of tea Sweet and strong and warm Set it down beside you Till the quiet takes its form Sorry is a cup of tea Two spoons, no need to say We'll talk about it later But I'm glad you're here today We don't have to be right We don't have to be wise We only have to sit here With the sunset in our eyes And the little clink of china Is the best thing that I've heard Better than a long apology Better than a single word Sorry is a cup of tea Sweet and strong and warm Set it down beside you Till the quiet takes its form Sorry is a cup of tea Two spoons, no need to say We'll talk about it later But I'm glad you're here today I'm glad you're here today
