Lyrics
Mama bought a brand new hat With a feather and a bow She wore it to the gymnasium So the whole row would know I walked across the stage My name rang through the hall She stood up in her yellow hat And she was louder than them all Dance, dance, graduation day Mama's hat is leading the way Samba down the front steps, sun on the street Everybody's shouting and clapping to the beat Dance, dance, graduation day Every little worry has gone away Hold the paper up so the whole world can see Mama's hat and a dream, and the dream is me Uncle brought a camera The flash went off too soon Grandpa fell asleep before The band began to tune My little sister held my gown So it would not drag Then the whole street joined the dancing And the hat began to wag Dance, dance, graduation day Mama's hat is leading the way Samba down the front steps, sun on the street Everybody's shouting and clapping to the beat Dance, dance, graduation day Every little worry has gone away Hold the paper up so the whole world can see Mama's hat and a dream, and the dream is me She worked a double shift So I could sit and learn Tonight it's her turn to shine And I am glad to turn We walk home through the evening The paper in her hand She says I always knew you would And I say I understand Dance, dance, graduation day Mama's hat is leading the way Samba down the front steps, sun on the street Everybody's shouting and clapping to the beat Dance, dance, graduation day Every little worry has gone away Hold the paper up so the whole world can see Mama's hat and a dream, and the dream is me Mama's hat, Mama's hat Dancing down the street
