Lyrics
The pen is in my hand The page is on the glass The coffee's getting cold And the minutes going fast I've been working twenty years For somebody else's name Tonight I hold a key To a door that's mine to claim One more breath One more breath Steady hands Steady hands Sign the lease before the coffee cools Build it from the ground Sign the lease, we're not anybody's fools Hear the thunder sound My own shop with my own name Steel and sparks and flame Sign the lease before the coffee cools And never be the same My wife is at the window She's holding up two thumbs My daughter in the doorway Is humming how it comes The landlord checks his watch But he's smiling anyway He knows the look I carry It's the look of a good day One more breath One more breath Steady hands Steady hands Sign the lease before the coffee cools Build it from the ground Sign the lease, we're not anybody's fools Hear the thunder sound My own shop with my own name Steel and sparks and flame Sign the lease before the coffee cools And never be the same If I fall, I fall with something built If I rise, I rise with all my own Nobody ever gave me anything But the work, and I made it home Signed the lease and the coffee's still warm Built it from the ground Signed the lease, I weathered the storm Hear the thunder sound My own shop with my own name Steel and sparks and flame Signed the lease and the coffee's still warm And I'll never be the same
