Elevator Music for Two

Lyrics

Midnight at the Grand Marquette
Fourth floor, the hall's all hush
Two band kids in rumpled coats
Wide awake in the rush
We bumped into each other
By the humming ice machine
She hummed a tune from nowhere
Prettiest thing I've ever seen

And the lift came down so slow
Neither one of us said go

Elevator music for two
Dancing in the hallway, nothing else to do
Carpet's like a ballroom, lamps are turned down low
Every floor we pass, we let the moment go
Elevator music for two
I'd ride all night with you

She said she sings in a cover band
I said we're in a van
She laughed and held her sneakers
And I took her other hand
We swayed beside the fire exit
Beneath a flickering sign
The whole hotel was sleeping
And the night was only mine

And the lift came down so slow
Neither one of us said go

Elevator music for two
Dancing in the hallway, nothing else to do
Carpet's like a ballroom, lamps are turned down low
Every floor we pass, we let the moment go
Elevator music for two
I'd ride all night with you

Press the button, press it twice
Let the doors stay wide
There's a whole wide world out there
But the best of it's inside

Elevator music for two
Dancing in the hallway, nothing else to do
Carpet's like a ballroom, lamps are turned down low
Every floor we pass, we let the moment go
Elevator music for two
I'd ride all night with you

Ding, and the doors slide shut
Just us, just us
