Lyrics
Thunder rolled in and the whole grid died Streetlights blinking out one by one outside Mr. Alvarez drags a generator out Says hold my coffee, now watch what this is about Extension cords running like a spider web Porch to porch, from the stoop to the curb Kids with flashlights making shadow shows Whole block lit up where the party goes No power in the wires But we got power in the crowd Generator hum, whole block come Storm outside but we got the drum Lights out, hands up, sing it loud Brightest night in the whole dark town Generator hum, whole block come Everybody here is number one Rain keeps falling, we keep on Lights out, hearts on Miss Dee brought a pot of rice and beans Twins brought speakers, little ones brought dreams Somebody's cousin plays the trumpet right Rain on the awning is the hi-hat tonight Old folks dancing in the doorway light Teenagers laughing, nothing's wrong tonight Phones are dead so we look up high Faces glowing under the stormy sky No power in the wires But we got power in the crowd Generator hum, whole block come Storm outside but we got the drum Lights out, hands up, sing it loud Brightest night in the whole dark town Generator hum, whole block come Everybody here is number one Rain keeps falling, we keep on Lights out, hearts on Who needs a screen when you got a neighbor Who needs a wall when you got a favor One little engine and a hundred friends Hope that the storm never really ends Generator hum, whole block come Storm outside but we got the drum Lights out, hands up, sing it loud Brightest night in the whole dark town Generator hum, whole block come Everybody here is number one Rain keeps falling, we keep on Lights out, hearts on When the lights come back we'll all go home But we won't forget we weren't alone
