Lyrics
The vending light is humming It's two a.m. outside I sit beside a stranger With nowhere else to hide She offers me a cracker I offer her my chair We do not speak of trouble We just sit and share Stay awhile, stay awhile The night is long but kind Stay awhile, stay awhile You are not alone, I find The light is low, the coffee's warm We wait it out together Stay awhile A nurse comes by with blankets She whispers, take your time The clock goes slow and steady Like an old familiar rhyme I tell her about my mother She tells me about her son We hold the little quiet Until the night is done Stay awhile, stay awhile The night is long but kind Stay awhile, stay awhile You are not alone, I find The light is low, the coffee's warm We wait it out together Stay awhile The window turns to gray A bird sings out of tune The morning comes politely And we thank the afternoon Stay awhile, stay awhile The night is long but kind Stay awhile, stay awhile You are not alone, I find The light is low, the coffee's warm We wait it out together Stay awhile Stay awhile Stay awhile
