The Kitchen Radio Knows All the Words

Lyrics

The kettle's on, the toast is burning,
The little radio hums by the sink,
I'm in my socks and my sleeves are rolled,
And the morning's louder than I think.
A crackle, a dial, a trumpet blares,
And I'm waltzing round the kitchen chairs.

Turn it up, turn it up,
The spoon's a microphone, the pan's a drum.

The kitchen radio knows all the words,
Knows every chorus I have ever sung,
It sings along with the singing birds,
It keeps me twenty and keeps me young.
So spin me round by the humming stove,
Let the tea go cold, let the music pour,
The kitchen radio knows all the words,
And I know them too, and a little bit more.

The weather girl says rain by noon,
The announcer clears his velvet throat,
Then a violin leaps out of the speaker,
And I'm holding a top and failing the note.
The neighbours bang on the wall in time,
They're humming it too, so it isn't a crime.

Turn it up, turn it up,
The spoon's a microphone, the pan's a drum.

The kitchen radio knows all the words,
Knows every chorus I have ever sung,
It sings along with the singing birds,
It keeps me twenty and keeps me young.
So spin me round by the humming stove,
Let the tea go cold, let the music pour,
The kitchen radio knows all the words,
And I know them too, and a little bit more.

Oh, the static comes and the static goes,
But the tune slips back, the way it does,
And the whole bright room is a stage tonight,
With a tablecloth curtain and a lamp for light.

The kitchen radio knows all the words,
Knows every chorus I have ever sung,
It sings along with the singing birds,
It keeps me twenty and keeps me young.
So spin me round by the humming stove,
Let the tea go cold, let the music pour,
The kitchen radio knows all the words,
And I know them too, and a little bit more.

Turn it up, turn it up,
And I know them too, and a little bit more.
