First Frost Footsteps

Lyrics

Woke up, window white, the grass wearing glass
First frost on the block, you can feel it in the air
Breath makes a cloud when I'm talking to the cold
Hoodie up, hands in, but the vibe is bold
Crunch, crunch, crunch on the sidewalk sheet
Every step a snare, every step a beat
Bus stop crowd with their coffee steaming
Whole city's moving like it's all one dreaming

Cold on the ground but we warm in the sound
Cold on the ground but we warm in the sound

First frost footsteps, crunch it out loud
Walk it like a drum line through the crowd
First frost footsteps, hear it, hear it snap
Winter's at the door and we're tapping back
Crunch, crunch, hey, step with me
First frost footsteps, we the melody

Skye on the corner with her scarf wrapped tight
Kid in the stroller got a mitten in flight
Windshields scraping, that's the hi-hat roll
Old man smiling like he's still got soul
Puddles turned to mirrors, don't you slip, don't you fall
Ice on the fence line, shining on the wall
Corner store steam from the hot cocoa cup
First frost morning and we all showed up

Cold on the ground but we warm in the sound
Cold on the ground but we warm in the sound

First frost footsteps, crunch it out loud
Walk it like a drum line through the crowd
First frost footsteps, hear it, hear it snap
Winter's at the door and we're tapping back
Crunch, crunch, hey, step with me
First frost footsteps, we the melody

Stop for a second, hear the quiet hum
Everybody's breathing, everybody's one
Then we drop it back in, heel and toe
Frozen to the floor but we're ready to go

First frost footsteps, crunch it out loud
Walk it like a drum line through the crowd
First frost footsteps, hear it, hear it snap
Winter's at the door and we're tapping back
Crunch, crunch, hey, step with me
First frost footsteps, we the melody

Crunch, crunch, hey
First frost footsteps
