Lyrics
I said I'd be there by nine Rain was falling on the line Forty years can slow a man But I came as fast as I can You said you'd wait by the door Like you always did before Little bench beneath the tree Keep a space there just for me I said I'd be there by nine A promise kept is a quiet shine Late, my dear, but here I am Holding out my hand Gray coat, and a paper rose Same old smile, and well, who knows Some things wait and don't grow old Love, a lamp against the cold I said I'd be there by nine A promise kept is a quiet shine Late, my dear, but here I am Holding out my hand Never mind the clock tonight You were patient, I was right Here beside you, just in time The hour is yours and mine I said I'd be there by nine A promise kept is a quiet shine Late, my dear, but here I am Holding out my hand Holding out my hand
