Lyrics
Across the little garden fence You water your tomatoes I hang my washing on the line We never say much more than hello You borrowed my old ladder once I borrowed your warm jacket Neither of us said a thing But both of us remember Wave through the window, neighbour Let the morning in Wave through the window, neighbour That is where we begin We don't need long conversations Just a nod and a smile Wave through the window, neighbour And I will stay a while Your music drifts across the yard A trumpet in the evening I sit out on the back step And I hear the whole song's meaning Some friends are made with talking And some are made with distance A light left on, a lifted hand A quiet, kind persistence Wave through the window, neighbour Let the morning in Wave through the window, neighbour That is where we begin We don't need long conversations Just a nod and a smile Wave through the window, neighbour And I will stay a while Wave through the window Neighbour
