Lyrics
Midnight at the loading dock Engine humming, coffee hot Forty tons and a long, long way Nobody awake but me and the highway Stars are cold on the windshield glass Mile after mile goes past I keep my hands steady and my eyes up I keep on rolling on Wheels turn Let it burn Diesel heart, open road I carry the weight and I carry the load Thunder in the engine, fire in the chest I never stop, I never rest Diesel heart, open road Take me home, take me home Diesel heart, open road Rain comes down on an empty town Gas station light is a yellow crown I wave to a stranger in a passing truck He flashes his lights and I'm in luck Radio crackles with a distant song I sing it loud, I sing along Mile marker blur and the dawn comes slow Home is a long way off but I go Wheels turn Let it burn Diesel heart, open road I carry the weight and I carry the load Thunder in the engine, fire in the chest I never stop, I never rest Diesel heart, open road Take me home, take me home Diesel heart, open road Sun on the hood Gold on the road I am almost home Diesel heart, open road I carry the weight and I carry the load Thunder in the engine, fire in the chest I never stop, I never rest Diesel heart, open road Take me home, take me home Diesel heart, open road Open road
