Cracked Four-Track, Leeds Flat

by Moth Static

Five whispered lullabies to small night-lights, taped alone in a Leeds flat.

Tracks

  1. 1. Two Time Zones, One Small LightI wrote this for a friend who'd moved far away, when midnight for me was lunchtime for her. The tape wobble on the intro was an accident I refused to fix.bedroom pop, shoegaze4:11
  2. 2. Harbour Asleep, Boats NoddingRopes creaking, boats nodding off. I recorded it with the window cracked open so the cold would keep me awake long enough to finish.lo-fi dream pop, ambient3:38
  3. 3. Porch Light MothA moth really did circle our porch light all October. I felt a bit of kinship with it, if I'm honest.bedroom pop, slowcore3:50
  4. 4. Pigeon Coop, Rooftop DawnA neighbour kept pigeons on the roof across the road, and watching them at dawn was the nicest part of my day. The synth is a borrowed toy keyboard.bedroom pop, tape haze3:39
  5. 5. Greenhouse Lamp, All Night LongThe warmest thing on the tape, a heat lamp humming against the dark. It's the closest I got to a hopeful song that year.ambient pop, shoegaze3:48

Liner notes

This was just me, Wren, a cracked four-track and a duvet hung over the window to keep the neighbours out of the tape. I sang quietly enough that the hiss was louder than I was, and I decided that was fine. Everything here is about a light left on somewhere: a porch, a greenhouse, a harbour. I wanted songs you could fall asleep inside.
