Their story
Moth Static began in 2011 as Wren Aldous recording whispered songs on a cracked four-track in a Leeds flat, with Tomas and Imogen joining after a house-party set that nobody remembers but everyone slept through happily. Their self-released tape 'Last Train Home' (2013) became a quiet word-of-mouth favourite, and 'Soft Focus Weather' (2016) added the drum machine and synth pads that define the sound. 'Blur Season' (2019) and 'Pillowcase Satellites' (2022) cemented them as a cult act for insomniacs. They still record in the same flat, tape wobble and all.
The band
- Wren Aldous vocals, guitar, tape loops
- Tomas Heller synths, drum machine
- Imogen Pryce bass, backing vocals
Influences: Shoegaze haze, cassette-four-track bedroom pop, late-night train announcements, 80s ambient synth records, slowcore
Latest from Moth Static
- The kettle's on and the tape is wobbling nicely. We've started a new little record called "Porch Light for the Late Ones", five soft songs for the hour after the last train, when the platform is empty and everything hums. Tomas is coaxing warm pads out of the old synth, Imogen found a bass line that sounds like yawning, and I'm whispering into the same cracked four-track as ever. Thank you for keeping us company at odd hours. Sleep gently, or stay up with us a while.
