Porch Light Left On

by Kilo Meridian

A warm, settled record about getting home: ferries, laundromats, kettles and one last slow dance.

Tracks

  1. 1. Last Tram Home, Windows FoggedThe last tram of the night with the windows fogged white. I wanted to open the record with everyone going home.dreamy electronica, ambient pop4:06
  2. 2. Switchback Moon, Headlights LowA mountain road, a moon above the pines and the headlights low. It's the spiritual sequel to the pass song from my first EP.romantic synthwave, night drive4:48
  3. 3. Midnight Rinse, Bright MachinesLaundromat at midnight with the washers in line. I gave the machines a groove because they deserve one.groovy synthwave, bright synthpop3:32
  4. 4. Boarding House, Salt on the SillSalt on the sill, said twice, because that's how it sounds in my head. A quiet song about a rented room by the sea.nostalgic electronica, coastal ambient3:23
  5. 5. Frost Patterns, Window ArtFerns made of ice on the window. It's a short, bright little tune that I wrote before my tea went cold.playful electronica, bright synth3:33
  6. 6. Throw Me the Rope, Ferry HomeThe ferry slides in slow on the tide and someone throws me the rope. It's the single, and the one I'd end a film on.hopeful electronica, anthemic synth3:34
  7. 7. Stopped Watch, Sunrise on the RoofMy watch has stopped and I don't mind. It's the answer to the watch song on Gated Summer, seven years later.joyful synthwave, bright synthpop4:05
  8. 8. Second Lap Round the BlockI drove away, came back and went round the block again. The smoothest drive on the record, and the dreamiest.smooth synthwave, dream pop3:59
  9. 9. Taillights Fading, Not Fading YetThe night went wrong and I left the party alone. Even the taillights have a groove here.groovy synthwave, melancholy synth3:22
  10. 10. Kettle Clicks Off, You Pick UpThe kettle clicks off, the phone is warm and someone picks up. I wrote it for the call that finally goes through.romantic electronica, tender synth3:05
  11. 11. Play It Slow, Last Dance HomeThe floor is almost clear and the lights are low. A slow dance to close the whole discography, with the drum machine barely breathing.romantic electronica, dream pop3:32

Liner notes

I'd been writing about leaving for twelve years, so this time I wrote about arriving. The porch light is still on, the kettle is clicking off and someone is picking up the phone. I kept the heartache, because it's part of how I hear things, but there's more sun in the chords. I think it's the first record where I sound like I'm smiling in the car.
