Bedroom Frequencies

by Kilo Meridian

Six first sketches on one secondhand cinema-organ synth, recorded at night in a Porto bedroom.

Tracks

  1. 1. Streetlights Count Me HomeThe very first thing I finished on the organist's synth. It's just a coast road, a open window and a slow arpeggio, and it still tells you who I am.night drive, dream synth5:40
  2. 2. Tape Hiss and Rain on the BonnetI recorded this with the heater ticking in the background and left the tape hiss in on purpose. It's the sound of waiting in a parked car.ambient, lo-fi4:40
  3. 3. Second Prize Is Still a PrizeA rare happy accident of a song about winning something small. The drum machine is grinning the whole way through.arcade pop, retro3:56
  4. 4. Home Is a Different Time ZoneWritten after a long call with someone eight hours behind me. The pads are slow because the distance felt slow.downtempo, dream synth3:42
  5. 5. Mountain Pass at MidnightI imagined a snowbound pass and a film where nobody says anything for ten minutes. The synth does the talking.cinematic, dark synth3:58
  6. 6. Letter in Your HandwritingThe closer, because a letter felt like the right way to end a first record. It's gentle on purpose.chillwave, tender synth3:36

Liner notes

I bought the synth from a retiring cinema organist who told me it still remembered every film it had ever scored. I believed him. These six tracks were recorded after midnight with a towel over the window and the drum machine turned down so the neighbours wouldn't knock. Nothing here was meant to be heard by anyone, which is probably why it sounds so honest.
