Blur Season

by Moth Static

The band's blurriest, brightest record: warm bakeries, slow dances and the first big choruses.

Tracks

  1. 1. Late Bakery Window, Cooling RacksThe first thing I hear when I think of this record is warm bread in a cold street. We recorded it at 5am for the full effect.lo-fi, bedroom pop3:33
  2. 2. Tram Depot Sweeper, Sparks and DustSweeping up sparks and dust after the last tram, and nobody watching. I loved the idea of someone doing quiet work in the dark.lo-fi, dream pop3:20
  3. 3. Canal Lock Keeper, Lantern on the GateA lock keeper, a lantern and black water rising. The slowest song on the record, and one of my favourites.slowcore, dream pop3:03
  4. 4. Wedding Toast at Midnight, Glasses LowA friend's wedding, last dancers swaying, glasses low. I wrote the first verse on a napkin and Imogen finished it.dream pop, romantic ballad3:28
  5. 5. Slow Dance in the Kitchen LightA kettle off, dishes dry and the radio low. It might be the most domestic song we've written, which is the point.bedroom pop, dream pop3:12
  6. 6. Rise Up Loud, Neon AnthemYes, we wrote an anthem. We were embarrassed for about a week, then we started to love it.synth pop, shoegaze3:51
  7. 7. Raffle Ticket, Number Forty-TwoA raffle ticket, number forty-two, and a tiny bit of hope. The drum machine gets to be a little silly here.lo-fi, bedroom pop3:04
  8. 8. Cap and Gown, Cardboard StageA borrowed gown, a cap that won't stay on, and a cardboard stage. I wanted it to feel like one big shaky grin.dream pop, indie pop3:47
  9. 9. Green Light Mixtape, Rolling HomeA crooked marker on a cassette label is the most honest sort of love letter. Our tape-swapping days are all in this song.lo-fi, bedroom pop2:57
  10. 10. Overpass Sunrise, Hands in the AirWe closed the record with a sunrise and a lot of reverb. It's the closest we've come to a stadium, and the stadium is an empty overpass.shoegaze, lo-fi2:56

Liner notes

Blur Season is what happens when three insomniacs start to feel a little bit hopeful. We let the songs get louder in places, and some of them even have choruses you could shout. The wedding and kitchen songs came from real nights: a friend's reception, and a long slow dance with the radio on. The tape wobble is still there, because we'd miss it if it went.
