Parked by the Sea

by Kilo Meridian

Back behind the wheel: small kindnesses, borrowed lights and warm hands on a cold coast.

Tracks

  1. 1. Night Pier, Lights on the WaterWalking out to the end of the pier with the boards still wet. It starts the record the way the first one started, with water.coastal synthwave, dream pop4:19
  2. 2. Tram Depot, Lights Going OutTrams going to sleep one by one and switching off their lights. A cosy lullaby for machines.cosy electronica, ambient pop3:55
  3. 3. Lost Button, Found LightA little round button rolled under the table and into the light. The silliest idea here, and my favourite synth tone.bright electronica, playful synth2:56
  4. 4. Seaside Town, Shutters ClosedShutters closed, gulls on the roof and the wind in my feet. It has the groove of a town that's given up for the winter.groovy synthwave, coastal synth4:15
  5. 5. Sunshine for NothingNothing went wrong and nothing went right, and it was a perfect day anyway. This is the single, and the sunniest chorus I've written.sunny synthpop, anthemic synthwave3:30
  6. 6. Mum Keeps the Porch LightMy mum keeps the porch light on even when I say I'm fine. I sang it in one take and didn't touch it afterwards.tender electronica, hushed synth3:35
  7. 7. Play the Last One for HerThe last song of the night at a small dance floor, played for one person. I wrote it as a slow dance for two.romantic electronica, dream pop3:52
  8. 8. Someone Stopped, Engine OffSomeone stopped, the engine was off and the night was cold. It's a thank-you note to a stranger I never saw again.hopeful synthwave, cinematic pop3:07
  9. 9. Pay Slip in My PocketMy first pay slip folded in my coat on the way home. I wanted it to sound proud and a bit scared.nostalgic synthwave, bright synthpop3:33
  10. 10. Wait for the Rain to ComeThe sky is heavy and we all wait for the rain. The slowest build I've done, and the drums only show up at the end.atmospheric electronica, nostalgic synth4:32
  11. 11. Room Key, Heart RacingA card, a green light and a heart going too fast. I played the synth like a nervous tap on a door.playful electronica, retro pop4:30

Liner notes

I got the car running again and drove back to the coast where I started. This record is about the small things that keep a person going: a stranger who stops, a first pay slip, a hat on the pavement. I went back to the original synth and the old drum machine, and I sang closer to the microphone than ever. It sounds like a man who stopped hiding.
