Corazón de Domingo

by Max Solano

Soul-pop for slow Sundays: heat, rain, memories and a nylon guitar by candlelight.

Tracks

  1. 1. Heatwave Siesta HushEven the pigeons give up in this heat, so I wrote a song for lying very still. The horns are barely awake.soul-pop, hushed soul3:09
  2. 2. Fan Spinning SlowToo hot to sleep in a brand new city, and the fan keeps going round. It's the loneliest groove I ever wrote.pop, bedroom pop, melancholy pop3:18
  3. 3. Taxi Home Alone (Best Night Ever, Almost)Best shirt, perfect hair, missed the last train. I turned the worst night into a wink, because that's the only way I know.pop, latin pop, playful pop2:19
  4. 4. Nylon Strings and CandlelightOne guitar, one small light, and fingers finding old chords. This is the heart of the record, and I played it in one take.soul-pop, bolero, acoustic soul3:04
  5. 5. Thirty Years of MondaysThirty years of the same bus and the same lanyard, and still hope at the end. I wrote it for my uncle, who never complained once.pop, nostalgic pop3:30
  6. 6. Cedar and Rain on My SleeveA jacket left on a chair that still smells of cedar and rain. I let the silence between lines do half the singing.pop, melancholy pop2:43
  7. 7. Monsoon Window SeatTwo cups of chai and the roof drumming along. It might be the coziest thing I have ever recorded.soul-pop, cosy soul3:43
  8. 8. Fog on the Plaza DanceFog in the plaza and nobody watching, so we dance. The one up-tempo moment on a gentle record, and the one I play to wake people up.dance-pop, dreamy pop, handclap pop2:51
  9. 9. Your Face in the Old PolaroidA Polaroid in a book, and your face in the sunlight. I sang it as quietly as I could so I wouldn't scare the memory off.soul-pop, hushed soul2:46
  10. 10. Cinnamon Rolls and Quiet SundaysRain on the roof, rolls in the oven, and nowhere to be. I close with this one because it's what a Sunday should feel like.latin pop, cosy pop, bolero-pop2:46

Liner notes

Corazón de Domingo is the record I made when I finally let the crooners I grew up on into the room. Sundays in Medellín are slow and a little sentimental, and I wanted the songs to sound like that: warm tenor, soft horns, handclaps turned down to a heartbeat. Some of it is about missing people, some about nothing at all, and all of it was recorded with the windows open.
