Their story
Zuri Bell grew up singing in a church choir in Lagos and recording voice-note demos on a borrowed phone. She released her first EP, Yellow Dress, in 2014, which made her a local favourite, and broke out with the 2017 album Laugh Out Loud, whose title single travelled far beyond the city. Third album Bounce Season (2020) leaned into log-drum grooves and pop hooks, and Golden Hour Calling (2023) made her a fixture of morning radio. She now splits her time between Lagos and touring, still recording every chorus with friends crowded around one microphone.
Influences: West African highlife and street-party afrobeats, 2000s dance-pop, gospel choir call-and-response, sun-drenched Sunday radio

- Happy Friday, everybody! Mango Season Morning is at #9 and Lemonade Stand Legends at #15 in this week's Top 40, and I am dancing around my kitchen about it. Thank you for playing us on your mornings! I'm starting a brand new EP called Sunday Rice and Sunshine: log drums, highlife guitars, and choruses shouted by all my friends crowded around one microphone. Bring your loudest laugh. 🌞
