Lyrics
Caught outside the laundromat with the sky just coming down You were holding a paper bag and a broken umbrella frown I said there's room under mine if you don't mind a drip or two You laughed and stepped in closer, and the whole street turned to blue We didn't know each other's names But we matched our steps through the rain Half an umbrella, half a chance Two strangers in a puddle dance Shoulder to shoulder down Main Street Let the thunder keep the beat Oh, I don't know where you're going But I'm hoping it's my way Half an umbrella, half a chance Let it rain all day There's a bus stop at the corner, and you let it pull away There's a coffee shop with windows steamed up warm and gold I said I'm Danny, you said June, and the gutters sang along And I forgot about the weather and the plans I used to hold We didn't know each other's names But we matched our steps through the rain Half an umbrella, half a chance Two strangers in a puddle dance Shoulder to shoulder down Main Street Let the thunder keep the beat Oh, I don't know where you're going But I'm hoping it's my way Half an umbrella, half a chance Let it rain all day Wet sleeves and borrowed laughter Who knows what comes after A storm can be a doorway If you hold the handle straight Now the clouds are breaking open, there's a stripe of evening sun You close the umbrella slowly, and you don't walk off yet You say the rain was lovely, I say it's not quite done So we stand there in the brightness, and we're glad we're wet Half an umbrella, half a chance Two strangers in a puddle dance Shoulder to shoulder down Main Street Let the thunder keep the beat Oh, I don't know where you're going But I'm hoping it's my way Half an umbrella, half a chance Let it rain all day Let it rain all day
