Chalkboard Sunrise

Lyrics

Monday morning, desks in rows
Teacher with a laugh that glows
Wrote my name up on the board
Said, "Zuri, you can go explore"
Chalk on fingers, yellow dust
In a world of "maybe", she said "trust"

Call it out, call it out
She taught me what it's all about

Chalkboard sunrise, shining on me
Every lesson set me free
She said, "Dream it" and I said, "Okay"
Now I'm dancing in the light of a brand new day
Chalkboard sunrise, hey, hey, hey
Thank you, teacher, every day
Log drum bouncing, hear me sing
You gave me wings, you gave me everything

Taught me how to count the stars
Taught me how to lift my heart
Gold star on my paper plane
Soaring over the schoolyard rain
She stayed late to hear me read
Planted all the words I need

Call it out, call it out
She taught me what it's all about

Chalkboard sunrise, shining on me
Every lesson set me free
She said, "Dream it" and I said, "Okay"
Now I'm dancing in the light of a brand new day
Chalkboard sunrise, hey, hey, hey
Thank you, teacher, every day
Log drum bouncing, hear me sing
You gave me wings, you gave me everything

Who taught you? She taught me!
Who believed? She believed!
Say her name, say it loud
Every teacher, make them proud
Hey! Hey!

Chalkboard sunrise, shining on me
Every lesson set me free
She said, "Dream it" and I said, "Okay"
Now I'm dancing in the light of a brand new day
Chalkboard sunrise, hey, hey, hey
Thank you, teacher, every day
Log drum bouncing, hear me sing
You gave me wings, you gave me everything

Thank you, teacher, hey, hey
Chalkboard sunrise, every day
