Lyrics
Up on the roof where the old wires hum Rain on the antenna, tapping like a drum Down in the city a thousand windows glow I send my little signal to the ones I'll never know Static, then a whisper, then a song Somebody out there humming along Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry my voice a little bit higher Through the grey and violet night Tune me in, I'll be your light Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry us home Puddles hold the neon like a spilled-out dream Gutters sing the chorus, silver, soft and clean A kettle in the dark, a dial turned down low Somewhere a stranger's smiling at the radio Static, then a whisper, then a song Somebody out there humming along Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry my voice a little bit higher Through the grey and violet night Tune me in, I'll be your light Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry us home Let the thunder tune the sky Let the drifting clouds go by All the lonely frequencies Fold together on the breeze The storm is thinning, the sky turns slate and pearl The wires drip slow like a sleepy little world I'll stay up here till the very last drop Sending out a song that doesn't need to stop Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry my voice a little bit higher Through the grey and violet night Tune me in, I'll be your light Rain on the roof, rain on the wire Carry us home Carry us home Rain on the roof, carry us home
