Knock Twice, Say Sorry

“I knocked on a door across the hall and then lost my nerve. The song is me standing there with my fist up.”

Lyrics

You live across the hall
We haven't spoken in a year
I broke your window once
With a ball, I never said sorry

I knock twice, I say sorry
I knock twice, I'm here
It's a small door, a small word
But I'm standing at the door

The light is on inside
I hear a radio low
My hand is on the wood
And my heart is beating slow

I knock twice, I say sorry
I knock twice, I'm here
It's a small door, a small word
But I'm standing at the door

Open up, open up
Or don't, and I will wait
Open up, open up
It's never really too late

The door swings open slow
You're smiling in the light
You say come in, it's cold
And the kettle is on

I knock twice, I say sorry
I knock twice, I'm here
It's a small door, a small word
And you say come in
