Lyrics
Rain came down on Garden Street I had no hat, no plan You held your umbrella out And said, come under, friend Your shoulder touched my sleeve We walked the way it goes Two strangers, one small roof And a hundred silver notes Half your umbrella, half the rain Half a smile on a crowded lane I don't know your name, I don't know your street But the rain keeps time with our feet Half your umbrella, half the rain Walking slow and not complaining If the clouds could hear, they would stay a while Half your umbrella, half the rain Puddles took the neon light And scattered it like gold You steered me round the bus stop crowd Like someone I'd known of old I talked about the weather You laughed like it was news Two strangers, one small roof And nothing much to lose Half your umbrella, half the rain Half a smile on a crowded lane I don't know your name, I don't know your street But the rain keeps time with our feet Half your umbrella, half the rain Walking slow and not complaining If the clouds could hear, they would stay a while Half your umbrella, half the rain Here's the corner, here's the light You turn left and I turn right Keep the umbrella, keep it dry I will keep the rain and the reason why Now I walk home with the sky Running down my collar And I am smiling like a fool Who got more than he'd asked for Somewhere a stranger hums A tune the rain begun Two strangers, one small roof And now we're back to one Half your umbrella, half the rain Half a smile on a crowded lane I don't know your name, I don't know your street But the rain keeps time with our feet Half your umbrella, half the rain Walking slow and not complaining If the clouds could hear, they would stay a while Half your umbrella, half the rain Half the rain Half the rain
