Cambio de Estación

by Max Solano

Five songs about seasons turning: off-season boardwalks, spring coats, falling snow and the last warm porch lights.

Tracks

  1. 1. Window Box SerenadeA window box on the second floor, and a love song small enough to fit inside it. I sang it close to the mic, almost whispering.soul-pop, acoustic soul2:48
  2. 2. Out-of-Season Boardwalk BoogieShutters down on the ice cream shack and only the gulls for a crowd. I played it for them first, and they seemed to like the groove.latin pop, boogie, nostalgic pop2:52
  3. 3. Spring Coat Off SambaThe first warm day, the coat comes off, and everybody on the street is suddenly a dancer. A samba for that exact moment.latin pop, samba-pop3:01
  4. 4. Snow That Never SettlesFlakes that vanish on your sleeve before you can say hello. I wanted the melody to melt the same way.soul-pop, wintry soul3:11
  5. 5. Late Summer Porch LightsGold on every wall and the end of a long summer. It's the closing-time song, and I always sing it a little slower than I planned.soul-pop, hushed soul3:15

Liner notes

After a year of touring I wanted to write about the quiet places between the parties. These songs are about weather and waiting: an empty boardwalk, a coat coming off, snow that never sticks. The horns are fewer and the nylon guitar sits at the front. It was my first record where I let a song end softly instead of with a shout.
