Delay Garden

by Odalys Fern

Shimmering guitars and slow analog arpeggios arrive as the voices wander through a garden of night-time places.

Tracks

  1. 1. Fireflies at the Field's EdgeA dark field and fireflies, the first song where an arpeggio opened the door. I wanted it to feel like summer holding its breath.psychedelic folk, analog arpeggio4:26
  2. 2. Power Cut, Candles on the TableThe whole street lost power one night and everything went soft and golden. I recorded it by candle, mostly out of stubbornness.cosy psychedelia, dream pop4:14
  3. 3. Ticket Booth, Last Ferry OutA little ticket booth by a pier at the last ferry. The guitar echoes like a boat leaving.psychedelic folk, shimmer guitar4:38
  4. 4. Rooftop Telescope, Borrowed StarsBlankets, a thermos and borrowed stars on a rooftop. The synth line climbs the stairs with you.space folk, analog arpeggio3:49
  5. 5. Night Porter, Brass KeysA night porter walking a hushed hotel hallway with brass keys jingling. I tapped a real key ring against the mic for the rhythm.hushed psychedelia, chamber dream pop3:44
  6. 6. Rain Gauge on the BalconyI kept a glass rain gauge on my balcony and checked it like a diary. The harmonies fall like drops filling it.rainy psychedelia, choral pop3:53
  7. 7. Moonlit Laundry LineWhite sheets swaying on a moonlit roof line. The tremolo guitar is the wind moving through them.psychedelic folk, tremolo guitar3:21
  8. 8. Pilot Boat, Out to Meet the ShipsA small pilot boat slipping out to meet the ships. Sparse and slow, like oars in black water.ambient folk, dream pop4:19
  9. 9. Lost Glove on the RailingI found a single glove on a railing and wrote its whole story. The melody keeps reaching for a hand that isn't there.wistful psychedelia, folk dream pop3:37
  10. 10. Ferris Wheel, Switched Off for the NightA ferris wheel switched off for the night, standing still above the park. It closes the record with the lights going out one by one.dream pop, carnival ambient3:53

Liner notes

After the EP I found a secondhand analog synth and an old guitar with a tremolo that shivered, and suddenly the loops had somewhere to grow. I let the delay trails run long, like paths in a garden you can only see by lamplight. Every song is a small place at night, and every layer is still me.
